YEREVAN. – Even though significant progress has been made in recent years in terms of comprehending the true price of knowledge, the problem of mentality still hinders the development of education in Armenia.     

The Minister of Education and Science, Armen Ashotyan, noted the aforesaid during a press conference on Wednesday.

“Mentality-linked matters force the parents to make arrangements with the school principal, [and] the university students are prepared to pay to receive an examination mark, and not to receive education,” the minister said, and added that corruption still exists in this domain.    

In Ashotyan’s words, the Armenian society needs to continue to transform and change. The minister also noted that the second obstacle standing in the way of receiving education is the finances.  

“Extra money is always needed for education, and this problem exists in all countries,” Ashotyan stressed.

The third obstacle, as per Armenia’s education and science minister, is the incomplete link between the education system and the economy, and, for the most part, the business-conducting entities are the cause of this situation.      

Armen Ashotyan also pledged to continue the education reforms in Armenia.
