YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Minister of Defense, Seyran Ohanyan, convened an urgent consultation meeting in connection with the tragedy that occurred at Vazgen Sargsyan Military Institute.

The Defense Minister’s press secretary, Artsrun Hovhannisyan, wrote the aforesaid in his Facebook account. 

“This is a tremendously great pain for us, since it took place in an education institution for future [military] officers. Such incidents are unacceptable for us; they need to be uprooted from the Armed Forces. No such case should remain unpunished,” Ohanyan specifically said with respect to this incident.

Also, he instructed to carry out a service investigation and to punish all those that are guilty.    

To note, Armenian MOD Vazgen Sargsyan Military Institute’s third-year cadet Armen Melkumyan fired a shot at fellow cadet Sipan Movsisyan, on Saturday at around 9:05pm, and wounded Movsisyan who died in hospital, at around 10:20pm.

The MOD Investigation Service launched a criminal case on murder charges, and an investigation is underway.

Armen Melkumyan is arrested, and the criminal investigation is in progress.
