YEREVAN. – The Government of Armenia will reflect, as of January 1, 2014, on the amounts of the pensions and the salaries of the country’s public sector workers. 

Labor and Social Affairs Minister Artem Asatryan noted the aforesaid during a briefing with news reporters on Tuesday.

He did not rule out, however, that the matter of minimum wages may be discussed in one of the government’s future meetings. According to him, a proposal will be made to raise the monthly minimum wage all the way to 45,000 drams (approx. $108) from the current 32,500 drams (approx. $78).  

“The objective of raising the minimum wage by 30 percent is the gradual solution of the problems of the working poor. The 45,000 drams is the amount of a minimum wage that is much higher than today’s poverty line, which is the law specifies for a non-qualified employee,” Artem Asatryan said.
