Georgia is the closest to the European Union (EU) in the region, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, Foreign Minister of Spain, which is the EU chairing country, told a press conference in Tbilisi.

He said that the EU is for developing relations with Georgia. An agreement simplifying visa requirements, which is currently under consideration, will improve Georgians’ situation in European states. Moratinos stressed that Georgia is close to associate membership in EU. The aim of the delegation’s visit to Georgia is drafting s schedule of cooperating with Georgia.

Georgian FM Georgy Vashadze stressed that Moratines is a friend of Georgia. He was among the first to visit Georgia “after the Russian aggression” and is making every effort to contribute to Georgia’s security and territorial integrity. “Moratines is a person committed to the territorial integrity principle,” Vashadze said.

At a press conference in Yerevan, Moratines declared for intensified Armenia-EU relations and the country’s associate membership in the EU.
