YEREVAN. – The introduction of the institution of probation in Armenia assumes legislative changes.
Ambassador Andrei Sorokin, Head of the OSCE (i.e., Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) Office in Yerevan, told the abovementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
“The changes are geared toward an alternative sentence and applying measures to raise the effectiveness of the rehabilitation and reintegration activities, ensuring public safety,” stated the head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan.
In Sorokin’s words, this matter will also reflect on the problem of overcrowded penitentiaries in Armenia.
He noted that the establishment of a probation service in the country is envisioned by the strategic plan for judicial reforms, and it will be implemented in early 2014.
