YEREVAN. – Lebanese National Assembly (NA) Speaker Nabih Berri invited Armenia’s NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan for an official visit to Lebanon.

The two parliament leaders met Monday within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union session in Geneva, Switzerland. 

Abrahamyan noted that Armenia attaches importance to cooperation with Lebanon, informs the Armenian NA press service.

In his words, the Armenian people’s ties with Lebanon comes from the ancient times, the presence of the Armenian community in Lebanon has a centuries of history, and owing to the Lebanese people’s brotherly disposition, Armenians have managed to preserve their national identity and culture in Lebanon.   

The Armenian NA leader also underscored the need to enhance  cooperation and bilateral contacts between the two parliaments, and to invigorate the economic cooperation between both countries.

In Abrahamyan’s view, the two countries have made great achievements also in terms of successful collaboration within international arena.   

On his part, Nabih Berri highly evaluated the Armenian-Lebanese relations and highlighted the further development of interparliamentary collaboration.

The interlocutors also reflected on regional matters, the Karabakh issue, and the developments unrolling in Syria. They pointed to the importance of solving problems through peaceful negotiations.
