YEREVAN. – The liberalization of Armenia’s air transport sector will cause a 1-2 percent economic growth in the country, Economy Minister Vahram Avanesyan told news reporters on Wednesday. 

In his view, this growth will be recorded owing to the growth in tourism and the services, since the liberalization will benefit the air transport prices and raise quality.  

As per Avanesyan, the world track-record shows that national carriers rarely operate with profit and they usually receive state subsidies. 

On his part, National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia Chief Executive Director Arman Khachatryan stated that following the liberalization, any airline company—which meets certain technical standards—will receive a license in Armenia without difficulties.  

No restrictions will be imposed on the frequency and directions of the flights and sizes of the aircrafts. In addition, no competitions will be held among airlines companies to receive licenses to conduct flights to and from Armenia.
