YEREVAN. – Making the strategic partnership choice in Russia’s favor is dictated by Armenia’s national security interests.

Democratic Party of Armenia (DPA) Chairman Aram Sargsyan noted the aforesaid during a press conference on Thursday.

The press conference was devoted to the 200th anniversary of the Treaty of Gulistan, whereby the Caucasus had become a part of the Russian Empire.

Sargsyan noted that even though there were accomplishments and failures in recent years, the Armenian people have chosen the Russian path.

He added that if a need arises to review relations, it would be correct to review historical events, too.

“The key issue for me is national security, and that is based on a strategic partnership with Russia,” the DPA leader stressed.

He noted that the Europeans say they can ensure Armenia’s safety.

“But I do not see any plan. The arguments that Mercedes is better than Lada are not convincing,” Aram Sargsyan maintained.
