YEREVAN. – Armenian capital’s municipality must discuss the public transportation fares in an open debate, economist David Gevorgyan said.

The economist recalled that he had set up his own commission where every one can express his position.

“The commission set up by Yerevan municipality includes 30 people, with 23 of them being members of the Republican Party of Armenia and only 2-3 civic activists. Who will take into account our opinion?”

The economist is convinced that the present bus fare of 100 drams is adequate and allows renovation of vehicle fleet.

The municipality created committee after an unsuccessful attempt to raise transportation fare to 150 drams. The decision was suspended until the committee draws its conclusion. The commission features representatives of transport companies, NGOs and state agencies.
