The President of Armenia petitioned to the presidents of the Customs Union member countries, to give their consent to the ratification of all agreements as soon as possible.

Russian Federation (RF) First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov stated the aforesaid, as he presented the results of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council summit which wrapped up Thursday in Belarusian capital city Minsk, reports ITAR-TASS news agency of Russia. 

Shuvalov announced that the “road map” for Armenia’s entering the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space should be ready by December.  

“The ‘road map’ and the first results will be introduced at the next Council session to be convened in December in Moscow,” he said. 

The RF deputy PM added that Armenia also pledges to adopt, in several months, the normative-legal base to enter the Customs Union and it stands ready to join it, “wholly, [and] without reservations and restrictions.” 

He highlighted that the respective working group will determine the corresponding deadlines, but without hurrying any special mechanism.      

RF First Deputy PM Igor Shuvalov also did not rule out the possibility that Armenia’s joining this integration   unit will end in two phases: Customs Union, and Single Economic Space.

To note, following the talks that were held on September 3 in Moscow between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, Sargsyan had announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union. Aside from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan likewise are members in the Customs Union. And in response to this development, the European Union had stated that the signing of the Armenia-EU Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area agreement is now doubtful.
