YEREVAN. – Armenia has carried out a number of changes to prevent abuses in government procurement of medicine, Deputy Finance Minister said.

Previously the specifications for medicines contained their brand names, which meant to predict the outcome of the contest and predetermine the winner, Liana Hunanyan told reporters.

Now, the documents must specify the generic drug names or the name of an active substance. This will enable to involve a larger number of participants in the contest. A single list of purchases (CPV code) has been introduced, which will facilitate the conduct of analytical and statistical work.

The area of medicine procurement is one of the most controversial areas of public procurement, which causes dissatisfaction of drug producers and importers.
