YEREVAN. – The attorney of Armenian Sport and Youth Affairs Minister Yuri Vardanyan’s son, Davit Vardanyan, cannot appeal the decision of taking him into custody.
Davit Vardanyan’s legal defender Rafik Safaryan told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
“We cannot appeal because his five-day period of detention had ended before I could assume his defense. Now, he is on a two-month detention. We have to wait until it ends,” the attorney argued.
Safaryan also stated that he cannot provide any details about the particulars of the case adding that Yuri Vardanyan has not met with him and has not gotten involved with the case.
To note, Sport and Youth Affairs Minister Yuri Vardanyan’s eldest son, Davit Vardanyan, 29, was arrested on the Iran-Armenia border recently. Davit Vardanyan was detained while attempting to smuggle drugs at the border. Subsequently, he was arrested and sent to the detention center of capital city Yerevan’s investigation department. A criminal case is opened against Davit Vardanyan, and on charges of illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs.
