Death toll in Rio de Janeiro flash floods reached 133, Reuters reports. Rescuers are still digging for the missing in mud and debris. Local authorities assume the death toll may still increase.

According to meteorologists, the heaviest rains within last 44 years hit Rio de Janeiro. The torrential rains triggered 180 mudslides in the outskirts of the city killing hundreds of people and wounding others. Dozens of districts of the city were inundated with water. The River Maracana burst out banks in the area, in which the world-renowned Estadio do Maracana is situated.
