On June 15 PACE Monitoring Commission co-reporters John Prescott and George Colombier are arriving for a three-day visit to Armenia.

The co-reporters will meet with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abramyan, Armenian Parliament's press service told NEWS.am. During their visit the PACE co-reporters will also meet with the Vice-Speaker of the RA Parliament, Chairman of the Parliamentary Ad Hoc Commission to study the March 1-2 events and their causes Samvel Nikoyan, members of the Armenian delegation to PACE, Chairman of head of Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Affairs Artak Davidyan, Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan, Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan, RA Ambassadors of EU member states and representatives of international organizations.

The delegation is also scheduled to meet with Armenian ex-President Levon Ter-Petrosyan, representatives of NGOs, ex-members of the facts collecting group, lawyers, and relatives of the convicts involved in the March 1-2, 2008 case. Coordinator of the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress Levon Zurabyan said that PACE will hold a session this June to listen to a report on the work of democratic institutions in Armenia, and the ANC representative Arma Grigoryan is to attend the session.

A its session in Strasbourg, on April 27-30, 2009, PACE made a decision on co-reporters' visit to Armenia. The session listened to a report on the work of democratic institutions in Armenia, stressed the need for revisions of the RA Law on meetings and for an independent investigation of the March 1-2 events, which claimed ten lives. Besides, the organization demanded an immediate release of those not directly involved in the March 1-2 violations and dialogue-based profound reforms with participation of all political forces in the country. The session also discussed the issue of amnesty. PACE experts expect it to be delcared before the June session.
