YEREVAN. – Uruguay’s new Ambassador to Armenia, Juan Ojeda, on Friday presented his credentials to President Serzh Sargsyan.

Congratulating the ambassador for commencing his diplomatic mission in Armenia, the President wished him success. Sargsyan also expressed the hope that, during his tenure, the newly appointed diplomat will do his utmost to develop the Armenia-Uruguay ties and implement the respective agreements. 

Subsequently, the parties stressed that the Armenian-Uruguayan friendly relations are based on mutual respect and trust, and that there is a quite comprehensive legal framework between the two countries. The interlocutors also spoke about interparliamentary collaboration, and bilateral cooperation within international organizations.  

Serzh Sargsyan highlighted that the Armenian nation has a special love and respect for Uruguay, as the first country to recognize the Armenian Genocide, and it is deeply grateful to this country for providing shelter to thousands of survivors of this genocide.    

Ambassador Ojeda, for his part, noted that the people of Uruguay know the friendly Armenian people very well, and they are very much informed about Armenia. He also stated that the Uruguayan-Armenian community, which is most respected, contributes to the development of Uruguay, and serves as a bridge of friendship between the two countries and nations.
