YEREVAN. – Tensions in the Middle East will grow in 2015, while the Islamic State and regional actors will intensify their actions, expert in Arabic studies Sargis Grigoryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He noted that the developments are so fast that it is impossible to control them.

“West's attitude towards Syria's Bashar Assad will not change. However, depending on the threats coming from the Islamic State, West may change the emphasis: they may allow Assad preserve power, as he is will be the only force struggling against ISIS effectively,” Grigoryan said.

The analyst predicts clashes between ISIS and Syrian government forces, but is convinced that West will continue funding the opposition fighting against Asad.
