YEREVAN. – The issue of South Stream is under consideration of relevant stakeholders in the European Commission, including member states that are concerned in the matter, the head of EU delegation to Armenia Traian Hristea told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
Asked whether Europe has an alternative to Russian energy resources, Hrisrea said there is always an alternative.
“Of course, there may be better use of energy resources by increase of efficiency and diversification of resources, but it is not the issue that can be solved during today or tomorrow. This decision by Russia is to change the role, not destination of these resources,” he said.
Russian president Vladimir Putin announced decision to halt South Stream project after his talks in Ankara with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayiip Erdogan on December 1.
