YEREVAN. – The Defense Minister of Armenia, Seyran Ohanyan, gave several reasons for the recent unprecedented number of ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan.
Ohanyan summed up last year’s results at Tuesday’s news conference, and spoke about the plans for the current year.
As per the minister, the Armenian Armed Forces have continued to carry out their tasks under quite difficult conditions.
He noted that Azerbaijan, on the other hand, continues its policy of creating tension on its border with Armenia and the Line of Contact with the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, to resolve its domestic and external political matters.
“[Another] one of the objectives [by Azerbaijan] is to uncover the [military] capabilities of the Armenian side; [but] they have not achieved any significant success.
“At the same time, information warfare is waged. An anti-Armenian policy and a monstrous distortion of facts are conducted [by Azerbaijan],” Ohanyan added.
Unfortunately, as per the defense minister, the Armenian side suffered casualties last year, and also lost seven military servicemen as a result of the Azerbaijani sabotage since the beginning of the current year.
“Azerbaijan manifested a more brazen approach, but it was defeated again. It will always be like this, since the Armenian soldier is defending his home; his job is rightful. We have not lost, but have found our heroes,” Seyran Ohanyan stated.
