The United States are concerned about serious violence in the Karabakh conflict zone, OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair James Warlick said in an interview with the Voice of America Armenian service.

Unfortunately, 2015 starts very poorly, and tensions are high, he said.

“We are concerned for the people in the region and for peace process. The U.S. stands ready to help any way we can. We would like negotiations to begin. Now it is time for negotiations to begin. That offer was put on the table last year and it continues to be on the table through Minsk Group and co-chairs as mediators,” the diplomat said.

He added that during the latest meeting in Paris the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan committed themselves to continuing and increasing their engagement with each other.

“This is a conflict that can really only be resolved at the highest level. We look forward to the presidents’ meetings to continue,” Warlick said.

Both of the presidents know what it would take to find comprehensive settlement of the Karabakh conflict.

“We know that they have come close and they are narrowing their differences. It is important that they continue these discussions,” he resumed.
