Valérie Toranian, a French journalist, director of the magazine Revue des deux Mondes, ex-director of the magazine «Elle», published her first novel entitled “Foreigner,” Nouvelles d'Arménie reports, adding that the novel intertwines the stories of Armenian Genocide survivor Aghavni, who found refuge in France in the 1920s, and her granddaughter Valérie Toranian.

Presenting the horrors of the deportation, which her grandmother suffered, Toranian describes the opulent, but complex relationships with her ancestor. However, between the lines she also tells a universal story, which resonates with today’s problems: significance of legacy, frictions of identity and culture, as well as collision of values.
