YEREVAN. - Political forces cannot but side with the citizens struggling with the electricity tariff hike, Armenia’s ARF-Dashnaktsutyun parliamentary faction Secretary Aghvan Vardanyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am. 

According to him, this question, after all, requires solution; merely protests will not solve the issue. “We must develop legislative mechanisms so that similar situations do not recur. By merely running protests we can threaten the whole system,” Aghvan Vardanyan said.

The next demonstration against electricity price hike is schedule on June 19.

Currently the electricity tariff is 41,85 AMD for 1 kWh in daytime and 31,85 AMD at night. In its application, Electric Networks of Armenia proposes to raise the tariff up to 58 and 48 AMD respectively. Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission considered the application and presented a draft decision according to which the electricity tariff will rise by 6,93 AMD starting from August 1.
