YEREVAN. – The activists fighting against hike in electricity prices had to accept a proposal to form a group of 4-5 people for a meeting with the president, Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov said on Tuesday.

“President's offer showed readiness for a dialogue and I regret that our citizens did not agree to a dialogue that would give a new quality to their struggle,” Sharmazanov said.

As reported earlier, police used water canon to disperse the sit-in in Baghramyan avenue early on Tuesday morning. The police officers warned they would use force unless activists return to Liberty Square.

According to Sharmazanov, police officers and activists behaved properly. Asked about the use of water canons, Deputy Speaker said police had to maintain public order.
