YEREVAN. – An American Armenian philanthropist, who wished to remain anonymous, on Thursday send pizzas and squeezed fruit juice to the activists that are staging a sit-in for the third consecutive day at Baghramian Avenue in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia.

In doing so, this Diaspora Armenian expressed his support to and solidarity with the people that are protesting against the recent decision to raise the price of electricity in the country.

In addition, the people are bringing food and drinks from their homes—including neighboring villages—to Baghramian Avenue.

The demonstrators told the Deputy Chief of Police Yerevan, Valeri Osipyan, that all this is done voluntarily by the people, thus the latter express their support to the demonstrators.

The activists also offered sweets to Osipyan, but he refused saying he does not eat sweets.

And to the question whether they can offer sweets and juice to the police officers who likewise are standing for hours in the sun, the deputy police chief of Yerevan responded that there is no clear prohibition, and therefore the activists may offer food and drinks to these officers of the law.
