YEREVAN. – The Minister of Agriculture of Armenia, Sergo Karapetyan, received Professor László Kocsis from the University of Pannonia in Hungary.
Professor Kocsis has arrived in Armenia at the invitation of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and within the framework of the “Grape Genetic Resources Conservation and Sustainable Use in Armenia” project.
“The development of viticulture is a prospective branch of our country’s agriculture sector, and therefore measures need to be taken to effectively fight against [grape] phylloxera [i.e. a pest of commercial grapevines worldwide],” Karapetyan specifically noted in his welcoming remarks.
At the ensuing talk, László Kocsis presented to the minister the results of his respective research.
In addition, the parties underscored the need to conduct awareness among Armenia’s viticulturists, and with respect to the prevention of phylloxera.
The interlocutors also reflected on the ongoing activities toward creating vintage vineyards in Armenia, and with the FAO-approved project.
