YEREVAN. – The joint “New Armenia” Public Salvation Front of the opposition has been established in the country.
Vice-chairman of the opposition Heritage Party Board, Armen Martirosyan, stated at a press conference on Monday that this front has a political board and a united headquarters.
“[But] we are not fighting only against the [proposed] constitutional amendments,” said Martirosyan. “We [i.e. Armenia] have deep problems that must definitely be resolved.”
He informed that this front plans to mobilize the people, oust President Serzh Sargsyan and his administration through acts of civil disobedience, stop the process of adopting the new Constitution, and form a transitional government that enjoys the people’s trust.
“The phase of our active activities toward the fulfillment of our defined objectives will kick off with a nationwide referendum to be conducted in [capital city] Yerevan,” he added.
The “New Armenia” Public Salvation Front so far comprises the Heritage Party, Founding Parliament initiative, and “Stand up, Armenia” citizens’ movement.
