YEREVAN. – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) had learned from the media about the statement by the Azerbaijan FM, but it refrains from any comments, the ICRC Delegation to Yerevan—the capital city of Armenia—told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
The delegation noted that even though the ICRC conducts regular confidential dialogues with the parties to the Karabakh conflict, it does not disclose the results of bilateral talks and does not make respective public comments.
The delegation stressed that the ICRC mission is to protect the victims of conflicts and other forms of violence.
“We do not take part in investigations, or political debates,” added the ICRC Delegation to Yerevan.
APA news agency of Azerbaijan had reported, citing the press service of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that Azerbaijani FM Elmar Mammadyarov had stated at a talk with Patrick Vial, the ICRC Director for Europe and Central Asia, that, “the settlement of Syrians of Armenian origin in Azerbaijan’s occupied territories by Armenia is contrary to international humanitarian law, and this issue must be investigated on the basis of the ICRC mandate.”
