YEREVAN. – A number of reports discrediting the sovereign choice of Armenia that were prepared by western media has increased since Armenia's joining Eurasian Union, Russian Ambassador Ivan Volynkin said.

The Russian ambassador underscored the need to get unbiased and timely information in the era of globalization.

“At the same time we have to fight with organized and well paid attempts to distort history, incite conflicts and create instability in different regions,” Volynkin said during presentation of a book and a “Cross above Ararat” documentary.

He slammed western media's efforts to carry out a massive information attack on Russia in August 2008.

Certain results of such activities are visible in Armenia today. By using temporary economic difficulties conditioned, among other things, by the global crisis, the so-called analysts are trying to link the problem with the Eurasian choice of Yerevan, he said.

According to the ambassador, the aim of these publications is to destabilize situation in the country and bring “alien values”.

Mr. Volynkin pointed to the close relations between Armenian and Russian nations, common faith and “spiritual closeness”.
