YEREVAN. – Vice President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov, who is also Head of the Armenian NA Delegation to the Collective Security Treaty Organization Parliamentary Assembly (CSTO PA), on Friday urged—in Saint Petersburg, Russia—his CSTO PA colleagues to condemn Azerbaijan’s unconstructive position regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The Armenian parliamentary delegation met with CSTO PA Executive Secretary Pyotr Ryabukhin, the NA press service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.
The NA deputy speaker noted that Armenia, as the CSTO chairing country, stands ready to collaborate closely with its partners, in order to ensure the provisions of the Collective Security Treaty.
Sharmazanov noted that Armenia supports only a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. But he expressed his concern that, as a result of Azerbaijan’s violation of the ceasefire in September, there was an escalation of tension along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border and the Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact.
The head of the NA Delegation to the CSTO PA added that Azerbaijan’s provocative policy can seriously undermine the Karabakh peace process.
The interlocutors considered it unacceptable to use force for resolving conflicts.
