YEREVAN. – President Serzh Sargsyan will attempt, by way of the chairman of the Union of Armenians of Russia and businessman Ara Abrahamyan, to fill the political arena that became empty after Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) former Chairman and oligarch MP Gagik Tsarukyan left politics.
Political technologist and analyst Vigen Hakobyan noted about the aforementioned at a press conference on Monday.
Hakobyan stated that Sargsyan will see to it that he would have his “men” also in the political party which Abrahamyan will form, as it once was the case with the PAP.
“In Ara Abrahamyan’s case, a proposal was made to Serzh Sargsyan from outside Armenia [i.e. from Russia], which he could not turn down,” the political technologist added.
In his words, Russia, by inserting new political figures in Armenia, is trying to increase its influence, whereas Sargsyan, being a quite seasoned politician, is attempting to use this situation to his advantage.
“[And] within the framework of the new Constitution, Ara Abrahamyan, [together] with Serzh Sargsyan, will try to ensure a stable majority in [the Armenian] parliament,” Vigen Hakobyan concluded.
Ara Abrahamyan had earlier announced about his plans to form a party in Armenia, and which will run in the country’s next parliamentary election slated for 2017.
