YEREVAN. – There will be no meeting of the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan until the end of the year.

Ambassador Ara Papyan, who is a political scientist and Director of the Modus Vivendi Center, noted the abovementioned at a press conference on Tuesday.

In his words, although all talks along the lines of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement are certainly better than their absence, they just create an illusion of the presence of a peace process.

“But I don’t think there will be any meeting between the presidents until the year’s end; I don’t see the sense of this meeting,” Papyan stressed. “[Azerbaijan President Ilham] Aliyev is conducting a policy whose objective is the collapse of Armenia. The problem is not Karabakh; the objective of Azerbaijan and the entire Turkish world is to destroy Armenia.”

The analyst noted, however, that Azerbaijan-West relations have deteriorated a lot.

“Azerbaijan’s internal situation, especially economic, is also getting worse,” Ara Papyan added. “There is a prevailing instability in the country.”
