YEREVAN. - Fears of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev are increasing with regard to the possibility that the West can carry out a color revolution, Arab spring or Maidan there, Stepan Safaryan, Director of the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs, told Armenian News – NEWS.am, referring to the inter-political situation in Azerbaijan in light of the dismissal of National Security Minister Eldar Mahmudov’s in the run-up to the parliamentary elections on November 1.

According to Safaryan, Aliyev continued “clamping down” and arresting activists and dissidents. He recalled that a number of Azerbaijani ambassadors together with other embassy officers refused to return to Baku.  “As Azerbaijan’s MFA stated yesterday, apart from diplomats representing the country, different states also have intelligence agency officers and customs representatives. That is, Ilham Aliyev is evidently dissatisfied with the work of his intelligence agencies in different countries, which failed to prevent such shameful events. Aliyev considers all this as a conspiration,” Safaryan said.  

Ilham Aliyev thinks that his Ministry of National Security works improperly, he said. “Azerbaijan’s intelligence agencies tap everyone without exception. Aliyev is dissatisfied not with tapping, but with doing it badly,” said Safaryan.
