YEREVAN. - Serious ecological changes inside Lake Sevan –rise in water temperature and decrease of fish resources – have to do with the constant fall and rise in the water level of the lake, environmentalist Silva Adamyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am. According to her, the water level in the lake has lowered by 10 cm, this resulting in ecological changes, decrease of fish resources and elimination of different species of wildlife near the lake.

“We addressed the relevant state authorities and different officials dealing with the issue of Sevan, but got inadequate responses,” the environmentalist said.

Adamyan thinks fall in the lake’s water level is due to the circumstance of water consumption.

“Water has been released from Sevan, which resulted in lowering the water level by 10 cm. Where the used water flowed is another side of the question. There is an opinion that that water was supplied to the Hydro Power Plant (HPP) and  Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA), which produce energy. I am more prone to believing that hypothesis,” said the environmentalist.
