YEREVAN. – After December 1 and 6, a situation will be formed in Armenia, when the constitutional reform will be approved yet there will be no change of power in the country.
Director of the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs, political analyst Stiopa Safaryan, noted the abovementioned at a press conference on Thursday. He stated this commenting on the opposition “New Armenia” Public Salvation Front’s announcement that they will force a regime change after December 1.
In Safaryan’s words, “New Armenia” realizes that the matter of constitutional amendments will never guarantee a consolidation of the broad masses, and therefore it has brought forth the issue of a regime change.
“The design of the process, when they set another revolution day on December 1, is incomprehensible to me,” stressed the analyst. “The agenda should correspond to the reality.”
In his view, however, this does not mean that the matter of trust in the authorities cannot be linked to the forthcoming referendum on constitutional reform.
The “New Armenia” Public Salvation Front—which comprises several opposition forces—was officially formed on October 12. Its members state that they will change the country’s ruling regime before the referendum on constitutional amendments.
The respective constitutional referendum is slated for December 6.
