YEREVAN. – Armenia has complied with Israel’s request and demonstrated good will.

The Head of the Armenia Police Media and Public Relations Department, Ashot Aharonyan, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am commenting on some Israeli media reports.

“The Government of Israel had petitioned to the Armenian authorities with a request to permit Arik Martoyan to leave Armenia’s borders to continue [his] unfinished [military] service in Israel,” Aharonyan noted. “The Armenian side met the request of the state of Israel and, demonstrating goodwill, allowed Martoyan to leave the territory of Armenia.”

Aharonyan added that, naturally, everything was done within the law.

Several Israeli media on Thursday disseminated information that, allegedly, a special operation was conducted to bring Arik Martoyan out of Armenia.

Martoyan had moved to Israel when he was six years old. Two months ago, he had come to Armenia to see his relatives, but he was detained.

Subsequently, Israel had petitioned to Armenia, through diplomatic channels, with a request for the return of its citizen.

Israeli Knesset (parliament) member Tali Ploskov, who also heads the Israel-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group, likewise noted that Armenia handed the military serviceman over to Israel as a goodwill gesture.
