YEREVAN. – A man who tried to commit a suicide near the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan has been detained by police, representative of the police told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The man has been identified as 29-year-old citizen of Russia. The details will be made public after the investigation is over.

Earlier the U.S. Embassy issued a statement concerning the incident: “Yesterday, Embassy security staff observed an individual making an unauthorized intrusion onto the Embassy compound. The Embassy security staff quickly secured the compound, apprehended the individual, determined that he seemed to be disturbed, and turned him over to the Armenian police. We thank the Armenian authorities for their swift and effective response and are continuing to closely coordinate,” the Embassy said in a statement.
