It’s important to involve Syrian President Bashar Assad in the process of political transition in his country, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs  Federica Mogherini told Reuters. 

“I think we have learnt from lessons in Iraq that we need to ensure the necessity of political processes and transitions to guarantee not only security but also the involvement of all parts of the society in the process,” Mogherini said during her visit to Berlin.

“We’re working exactly at this, that is, at the possibility of political transition, where Assad is and will be considered as part of the initial stage,” she said, RIA Novosti reports.
