Ruling party ruins bill on referendum submitted by opposition

YEREVAN. – The ruling Republican Party of Armenia did not let pass the bill submitted by opposition MP Tigran Urikhanyan.

Only 42 deputies voted “for” – and 42 “against” – the bill on control over elimination of double voting on the ID-cards.

In her speech the head of Orinats Yerkir faction Heghine Bisharyan noted that 176,000 Armenian citizens do not have passports, only ID cards as a proof of identity in the country. She warned against opening a window for manipulation with so many voters, recalling that control stamp is obligatory for the voting with passports, not ID-cards. Thus, there is a danger that the holders of the latter can vote once again.
