YEREVAN. – Azerbaijan’s accession into the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) will be solely at the expense of Armenia.

The vice chairman of the board of Armenia’s opposition Heritage Party, Armen Martirosyan, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“We have witnessed similar occurrences also at the initial period of the Artsakh [i.e. Karabakh] War, when Azerbaijan’s successes were due to the assistance by Soviet Russia, subsequently, by Russia,” Martirosyan said. “As a rule, if Azerbaijan and Russia, or Russia and Turkey get closer [in relations], this definitely happens at the expense of Armenia.”

The Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry of Azerbaijan, Sevinc Hasanova, had told Russian reporters that the country considers its joining the EEU to be possible.

The current EEU member countries are Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and most recently, Kyrgyzstan.
