Tigran from Armenia’s Vanadzor city doesn’t remember the details of what happened on 2 December 2014. The only thing he remembers is that that day he got up in the morning and went to school as usual.

After getting wounded in a fight in the schoolyard, the boy fell into a coma and lost his memory. Tigran’s mother remembers each day of that horrible month, each second of expectation which she spent by her son’s bed.

On New Year, when everyone congratulated each other, Tigran’s relatives prayed in the hospital for him to come out of coma. On January 2, the boy opened his eyes. 

Today, years after the incident, Tigran’s relatives celebrate his “second birth.” Of course, the coma was only the first trial which the 17-year old had to overcome. Due to the stab wounds in the area of his chest, the boy developed serious health problems. Tigran’s vision began to weaken and he lost the ability to walk. Attending school was out of the question. But the young man didn’t give up.

As a result of lengthy treatment, in 11 months Tigran made his first step without any help.  “Now he’s like a little baby, again learning to walk. He can’t yet manage well, but the progress is already there,” Tigran’s mother, Armine, says.

The young man underwent treatment also in Israel, this turning out to be effective. Tigran’s vision began to come back, but, of course, it will still take him a lot of time to return to productive life. However, the 18-year-old boy isn’t isolated because of his health problems. Of course, the teenager doesn’t attend school, but he communicates with his friends, sometimes visits them and goes out for walk. The doctors assure that the complete recovery is only a matter of time.

The Gevorgyans welcomed this New Year with special enthusiasm, celebrating “the second birthday” of Tigran. By the way, he himself decorated the Christmas tree, by his own preferences.

Nobody at home speaks about that unfortunate day. The relatives haven’t yet put up with what happened. Everyone will probably calm down when Tigran completely recovers and the guilty is punished.

On 2 December 2014, a quarrel took place in the yard of Gevorg Chaush School in Vanadzor, during which Narek Adamyan, 18, stabbed Tigran Gevorgyan, 17, and Robert P., 17. After the incident Narek Adamyan turned himself in to the police station and confessed that he was the one who had stabbed Tigran and Robert. The legal proceedings into the given case have been underway in the Court of General Jurisdiction of Armenia’s Lori province since May.
