Russian FM Sergey Lavrov had a phone call with the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry today, Gazeta reports, citing Reuters.

During the talk, the political normalization process in Syria, fight against the Islamic State terror group, situation in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as North Korea's recent nuclear test were discussed.   

Apart from this, Kerry and Lavrov discussed the ties between Russia and U.S.

"They agreed to stay in close touch, and to look for an opportunity to meet, in the days ahead," State Department spokesman John Kirby said but didn’t mention the specific day of the meeting.

During the last phone call on December 28, prospects of overcoming the crisis in Syria were discussed.
