YEREVAN. - The political and ally obligations to the U.S. have forced Saudi Arabia to lower the oil prices, posing a threat to the country itself. Economist Vardan Bostanjyan told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent.
According to him, the drop in oil prices has put into impasse those countries, whose financial resources are formed from oil sale. “This specifically concerns Russia, Saudi Arabia and other oil processing countries. This “fire” has actually spread all over the region. Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran tried to refrain from such unfavorable events, but their ties also deteriorated due to the Shia-Sunni conflict,” Bostanjyan said.
To the question on why Saudi Arabia lowers oil prices, considering that the economy of that country also strongly suffers, the economist said: “In my opinion, Saudi Arabia has turned out to be the carrier and defender of the U.S. policy in the region. Therefore, political and ally obligations can force Saudi Arabia to lower oil prices, posing a threat to the country itself. I think, these clashes are political in nature.”
In his words, it’s certainly impossible to say what the U.S. wants and which country it tends to defend, but one thing is clear: political aspirations and desires in the region lead to an economic war.
