Five people died and one was seriously injured after a collapse of a residential building as a result of gas explosion in northern Italy, RIA Novosti reports, citing La Repubblica.

The incident occurred not far from Arnasco city in Savona province in the night of Saturday. The explosion thundered after 3 am. Consequently, a two-storey building, where two families lived, was completely destroyed.

Rescuers and firefighters immediately arrived at the scene and extracted the bodies of four men and one woman from under debris.

Another woman got a third-degree burn of 80 percent of her body and was taken to Genoa hospital.  She is in extremely critical condition.
