YEREVAN. – National Assembly (NA) of Armenia Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov, who also heads the NA Armenia-Czech Republic parliamentary friendship group and is on a working visit to the Czech capital city of Prague, on Monday met with the Vice-President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Zdeněk Škromach.

Sharmazanov’s staff informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the deputy speaker of the Armenian parliament expressed his gratitude to his Czech colleague for attending the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations that were held in 2015 in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia.

The interlocutors noted that the relations between the Armenian NA and the Czech Senate are developing with dynamism. Deputy speaker of the Czech Senate, for his part, stressed the need to   make these relations grow deeper.

Also, Sharmazanov and Škromach reflected on regional matters, and noted that conflicts should be resolved solely through peace.

In this context, vice president of the Armenian NA highlighted that the “peaceful separation” between the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993 should serve an example for Azerbaijan, first and foremost.

“The people of Artsakh [i.e. Nagorno-Karabakh] are just as entitled to commanding their destiny as are the people of any other civilized country,” Sharmazanov said.

In addition, the parties underscored the continuity of the Armenia-European Union political discourse.

At the end of the talk, Eduard Sharmazanov invited Zdeněk Škromach to Armenia for an official visit.
