The European Parliament has once again noted that it supports the efforts of the Minsk Group Co-Chairs, considering it as the only internationally recognized format, dealing with the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. Head of the Armenian National Assembly delegation Samvel Farmanyan, who is also the MP of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am, referring to the statement adopted during the 16th meeting of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.
According to him, Armenia and EU have a full mutual understanding not only of the present and perspectives for the future, but also of such issues as regional security, Karabakh conflict and relations between Armenia and Turkey.
“I must especially stress the fact that the European Parliament has most strictly urged the rest of the 5 European, as well as other international institutions to try to align by all means with the OSCE Minsk group co-chairs statements and announcements during the discussion of any draft resolution,” Farmanyan said.
The MP attached special importance to the statement since the European Parliament is the highest legislative authority, which expresses the collective will of the EU countries. “And, secondly, this happens in Strasbourg, where another important event will take place in several days: during PACE’s winter session, the report by Robert Walter on the Karabakh conflict will be discussed. I think the statement of the European Parliament will get the attention of different European capitals,” Farmanyan said.
The 16th meeting of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee was held today in Strasbourg. In the final statement, the European Parliament stated that it “firmly supports the negotiation process under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, as the only internationally agreed format for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, in this regard, strongly encourages pan-European and other international institutions and bodies to align with the OSCE Minsk group co-chairs statements in their motions and resolutions on Nagorno-Karabakh in order to contribute to the peaceful resolution of the conflict. ”
