Armenia and Azerbaijan are members of the Council of Europe, and we must find a solution to the Karabakh conflict. Ex-President of PACE Anne Brasseur stated the aforementioned at a press-conference today before the launch of the organization’s winter session.

According to her, people must live in peace and quiet. Ms Brasseur also noted that they should do their best for the settlement of that conflict. However, she found it hard to say what the acceptable approach might be, noting that multi-lateral approach should be used in resolving that issue, Radio Liberty reports.

In Ms Brasseur’s words, people living in the region suffer as a result of this conflict. She stressed that these people are the citizens of the Council of Europe member-states and thus they should protect them.

Referring to the anti-Armenian reports put forward for discussion at PACE, Anne Brasseur said that a large number of MPs proposed not to hold a discussion on the aforementioned reports. However, according to her, the final decision – whether the discussion is to be held or the reports should be sent back to the committees - must certainly be made by the Assembly, Panorama.am reports.

Two anti-Armenian resolutions are expected to be put to a vote on Tuesday at the PACE Winter Session. They are PACE MP Robert Walter’s (UK) report entitled “Escalation of Violence in Nagorno-Karabakh and Other Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan,” and PACE MP Milica Marković’s (Bosnia and Herzegovina) report about Sarsang Reservoir in Nagorno-Karabakh, entitled “Inhabitants of frontier regions of Azerbaijan are deliberately deprived of water.”
