YEREVAN. – Germany is concerned by the current situation in the Karabakh conflict zone, and on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

The German Ambassador to Armenia, Bernhard Matthias Kiesler, stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Wednesday, and stressed that the easing of tension needs to be a priority.

In his words, one of Germany’s priorities during its Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Chairmanship in 2016 is the resolution of regional or “frozen” conflicts.

“We want to work in a specific confidence-building direction, whose objective is the easing of tension,” Kiesler noted. “We are confident that the OSCE Minsk Group is the only format for the conflicting parties.”

The ambassador noted that Germany supports the OSCE initiative to introduce mechanisms to investigate the incidents of ceasefire violation.

“We need political will,” the German diplomat added. “Therefore all sides should refrain from provocations, for the sake of confidence-building.”
