YEREVAN. – National Assembly (NA) of Armenia Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov—who also heads the NA Armenia-Latvia, -Lithuania, and -Estonia parliamentary friendship groups—highly appreciated the conduct by the MPs of these Baltic countries, and voting against the two anti-Armenian draft resolutions at Tuesday’s Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) plenary session in Strasbourg, France.

Sharmazanov’s staff informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the deputy speaker of the Armenian parliament on Wednesday had telephonic conversations with deputy speaker of the Latvian Saeima, Inese Lībiņa-Egnere; head of the Lithuanian Seimas friendship group with Nagorno-Karabakh, Dalia Kuodytė; and head of the Estonian Riigikogu friendship group with Armenia, Mati Raidma.

Eduard Sharmazanov noted that the voting of these Baltic parliamentarians have shown that they support a pacific settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and with the OSCE Minsk Group format, and reject the destructive approaches by Azerbaijan.

PACE on Tuesday voted against MP Robert Walter’s (UK) anti-Armenian report entitled “Escalation of Violence in Nagorno-Karabakh and Other Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan,” but adopted MP Milica Marković’s (Bosnia and Herzegovina) anti-Armenian report about Sarsang Reservoir in Nagorno-Karabakh, and entitled “Inhabitants of frontier regions of Azerbaijan are deliberately deprived of water.”

To note, representatives of the PACE Unified European Left Group, the Socialist Group, and the European People’s Party voted against both anti-Armenian reports.
