YEREVAN. – President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on Wednesday received the European Union (EU) Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, Ambassador Herbert Salber.

Press Office of the President informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that first, the President congratulated the guest on the extension of his mandate as the EU Special Representative, and expressed the hope that, as such, Salber will do his utmost to build confidence between the conflicting parties in the region.

Sargsyan underscored the maintenance of EU’s balanced position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and the implementation of its commitment to create a favorable climate for a comprehensive resolution to this conflict.

The EU Special Representative, for his part, assured that the EU has an interest in a prompt and peaceful resolution to this conflict, and it wishes to contribute to this resolution by assisting the OSCE Minsk Group, which is the only agreed and acceptable format toward the settlement of this conflict.

In the ensuing talk, the interlocutors reflected on the latest developments in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.

Also, Serzh Sargsyan and Herbert Salber exchanged views on the avenues for an EU assistance in a pacific resolution of this conflict.
