Lithuania has proposed to ban the use and circulation of St. George Ribbon, including it in the list of banned Soviet symbolism, Delfi reports.

The corresponding amendments have been proposed to be made to the Code of Administrative Offences and Law on Assemblies. Members of “Homeland Union” party stand behind this initiative.

According to them, the mentioned amendments aim at “protecting the key principles of sovereignty, freedom and democracy, as well as ensuring the public order and suppressing various provocations and attempts to spark ethnic hostility.”

It is proposed to institute administrative proceedings against those who will circulate and demonstrate the St. George Ribbon.
