Minister of Defense of Georgia Tinatin “Tina” Khidasheli, who is visiting Armenia, stated the above-said at Monday’s joint briefing with Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan.

Khidasheli noted that Armenia and Georgia are united by the aspiration to establish regional peace and to collaborate.

Ohanyan, for his part, stated that bilateral cooperation, creating a climate of regional trust, and regional security issues were discussed during the Armenian-Georgian talks.

In his words, cooperation between the two countries in the defense sector is expanding.

The Armenian minister said regional security challenges should be addressed by political means, and a respective climate of tolerance needs to be created.

In his words, even though the two countries have two different political priorities—that is, Armenia is a member in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), whereas Georgia seeks to join NATO—, they have but one objective: regional security.

“We see the future of the South Caucasus in stability and peace,” Seyran Ohanyan added. 

Tina Khidasheli agreed with her Armenian colleague, noted that there is much work to be done to develop relations in the current year, and stated that all military education institutions of Georgia will be open to partners.
